Recently I was sitting with some other parents at our kids' hockey game. Another boy's parents came rushing in, they'd been at a Bar Mitzvah that morning, so they looked so nice, all dressed up.
As the game went on, Mom was talking to another parent about the event. I guess she'd never been to one.
She was talking about the scroll that they read from, how it was treated with such reverence. She asked her husband about it and he said that it was hand written and very old.
She was very impressed and started talking about how it was no wonder that they treated it with such respect, so carefully. She was really impressed.
And then her husband said, ever so gently, "They treat it so carefully because it's the Word of God."
She was silent.
Sometimes we forget that the material manifestation of God may be a Bible or a Scroll, but in either case, it's still the literal Word of God.
It's the Word of God.
To be treated with all respect.
